A nice replacement for the stately American Elm, this native is tolerant of nearly all soil and water conditions. It can grow over 2′ per year and holds up to harsh cold and wind. The gray, deeply furrowed bark gives year-round interest. Most arborists say this is a tree that should be planted much more often. Deer don’t like it but birds and butterflies sure do.
